An estimate from the assumptions you entered, not a guaranteed outcome.

How this is calculated

FV = P × [((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i)

P
Monthly instalment
i
Monthly return = annual return ÷ 12 (or the effective monthly rate)
n
Number of monthly instalments
× (1 + i)
Instalments at the start of each month earn one extra month (drop it for end-of-month)

Each monthly instalment buys units that then compound until the end of the period, so early instalments grow the most. With a step-up, the instalment rises every 12 months. The calculator works month by month, so step-ups, a starting lumpsum, partial years and end-of-month instalments are all exact rather than approximated.

Assumptions & sources

  • The expected return is earned steadily every month; real returns vary and the sequence matters for SIPs.
  • By default instalments are invested at the start of each month and the monthly return is the annual return ÷ 12 — the convention of most Indian SIP calculators, so results match what you see elsewhere.
  • Expense ratios, exit loads and taxes are not deducted beyond what the assumed return reflects.

Common questions

Is the SIP return guaranteed?

No. The return is your assumption. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and can be negative; past returns don't guarantee future ones.

Why does my bank or app show a slightly different number?

Calculators differ in two conventions: whether instalments go in at the start or end of the month, and whether the monthly return is the annual return ÷ 12 or the effective monthly rate. Both settings are under 'More options' so you can match any calculator.

What is a step-up SIP?

You raise your SIP by a fixed percentage each year, often in line with salary increases. Even 10 % a year can make the final corpus dramatically larger. The Step-up SIP Calculator focuses on this.

How is this different from a recurring deposit?

A bank RD pays a fixed interest rate compounded quarterly, and the maturity is known in advance. A SIP's return is market-linked. Use the Recurring Deposit Calculator for RDs.
