Goal-based Investment Planner

Turn a goal — a house down payment, a child's education, a car, a wedding — into a plan: the goal's cost when you need it after inflation, and the monthly SIP or one-time investment needed to get there, counting what you have already saved.

How this is calculated

Target = Cost today × (1 + inflation)^t · SIP = (Target − Savings × (1 + r)^t) ÷ SIP growth factor

t
Years until the goal
r
Expected annual return
SIP growth factor
What ₹1 a month grows to by then (start-of-month instalments, return ÷ 12 a month, with any step-up)

Goals are priced in today's money but paid for in future money, so the planner first inflates the cost to the date you need it. Whatever your existing savings won't cover becomes the target for a monthly SIP — or for a single investment today, if you have the money now.

Assumptions & sources

  • Returns and inflation are constant. Markets are volatile, so for goals less than 3–5 years away consider safer, lower-return options and recalculate.
  • SIPs use the same conventions as the SIP Calculator (start-of-month, return ÷ 12); existing savings compound annually.
  • Taxes on gains at redemption are not deducted.

Common questions

Should I invest monthly or all at once?

If you have the money, a one-time investment needs less in total because it compounds longer — but it is exposed to market timing. SIPs spread that risk. The planner shows both numbers.

What return should I assume?

Match the return to the time horizon and the risk you'll take: equity funds are usually used for goals 7+ years away, hybrid or debt funds for nearer goals. Be conservative — a plan built on too high a return falls short.

What if my savings already cover the goal?

Then no SIP is needed at your assumed return; the planner says so and shows how much your savings may grow to. It is still worth reviewing yearly.
