Phase by phase
4 rowsXIRR is the single yearly return that matches all your instalments and the final value — the right way to measure a SIP whose amount changed.
An estimate from the assumptions you entered, not a guaranteed outcome.
How this is calculated
Each month: Value = (Value + instalment + top-up) × (1 + i); XIRR solves Σ flows ÷ (1 + r)^(t/12) = 0
- i
- That phase's monthly return (annual ÷ 12, or the effective monthly rate)
- Top-up
- Added once, at the start of its phase
Each phase runs for its number of months with its own SIP amount and expected return; the value carries over from one phase to the next. A phase with a zero SIP is a pause — or simply staying invested after you stop. Because amounts change, the simple 'gain ÷ invested' figure is misleading, so the calculator also reports XIRR.

Common questions
Can I pause a SIP?
Most fund houses let you pause a SIP for a few months (often 1–6) without cancelling it. Your existing units stay invested and keep growing — enter the pause as a phase with a zero SIP.
How is this different from a step-up SIP?
A step-up SIP raises the amount by a fixed percentage every year. A flexible plan lets each phase have any amount, including pauses, cuts and one-time additions.
