Sukanya Samriddhi is a government savings scheme for a girl child. You deposit for 15 years from opening; the account keeps earning interest until it matures 21 years after opening. Deposits qualify for Section 80C (old regime), and interest and maturity are tax-free. Up to half the balance can be withdrawn once she turns 18 for higher education, and the account can be closed early for her marriage after 18.
