Needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w · weighted grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ weight

Your course grade is a weighted average: if the final counts for 30 %, everything before it counts for 70 %. So the final score you need is whatever lifts the weighted total to your target. For a running grade, multiply each component's score by its weight, add them up and divide by the weights graded so far.

How do weighted grades work?
Each part counts in proportion to its weight: 88 % on assignments worth 20 % adds 17.6 points to the course grade.
What if the weights don't add to 100?
