Mileage Calculator — Fuel Efficiency (km/l, mpg, L/100 km)

Measure your car's or bike's real fuel efficiency with the fill-to-fill method: odometer readings and the fuel you put in give km per litre, litres per 100 km and miles per gallon (US and UK), plus the running cost per km. Or simply convert between fuel-economy units.

For the most accurate figure, fill to the brim both times at the same pump, and average over several tanks.

How this is calculated

km/l = distance since the last full tank ÷ litres to refill · L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/l · mpg (US) = km/l × 2.352

Fill-to-fill
Fill the tank, reset or note the odometer, drive, then refill — the fuel that refills it is the fuel you used

The fill-to-fill method is the most reliable way to measure mileage: the fuel needed to refill a full tank is exactly what you burned since the last fill. Divide the distance by it.

Assumptions & sources

  • Tank filled to the same level both times.

Common questions

How do I calculate my car's mileage?

Fill the tank fully and note the odometer. Next time, fill it fully again: km driven ÷ litres added = km per litre.

What is a good mileage?

For petrol hatchbacks in India, 15–20 km/l in mixed driving is typical; SUVs 10–14 km/l; 100–125 cc bikes 45–65 km/l.
