Countdown & Elapsed Time Calculator

Count down to an exam, launch, wedding or holiday — or count up from a past event — in days, hours, minutes and seconds, with the working days and weekends in between, in the event's own time zone.

How this is calculated

Remaining = Event instant − Now (both as moments in time, so time zones and daylight saving are handled)

Calendar days
Days between the two dates, ignoring the time of day

The event's local date and time are turned into an exact moment using its time zone, so a New Year countdown for India and one for New York differ by 10½ hours. The difference to now is split into days, hours, minutes and seconds; working days count Monday to Friday between the two dates.

Assumptions & sources

  • 'Now' is your device's clock at the moment of calculation.
  • Working days exclude only Saturdays and Sundays.

Common questions

How many days until New Year?

Set the event to 1 January 00:00 in your time zone; the countdown shows the days, hours and minutes left from now.

Can I count time since an event?

Yes — enter a past date and the calculator shows the time elapsed since then.

Why does the time zone matter?

An event at midnight in India happens 5½ hours before midnight in London. The countdown uses the event's own time zone.
