How this is calculated
Gap = Required corpus − Projected corpus · Extra saving = C* − C, where C* reaches the required corpus
- Required corpus
- Present value at retirement of inflation-rising expenses until the planning age
- Projected corpus
- Current savings and monthly saving grown to retirement
The analyzer runs both sides of retirement planning with the same assumptions — what your current plan builds and what your retirement will cost — and turns any difference into a concrete monthly action.
Assumptions & sources
- Savings grow monthly at the pre-retirement return ÷ 12, with contributions at the start of each month; any step-up applies every 12 months.
- In retirement, monthly expenses (net of other income) are withdrawn and rise with inflation; the corpus needed is their present value at the real return, (1 + return) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1, compounded monthly.
- Returns and inflation are constant averages — real markets vary year to year, and a bad sequence early in retirement matters most.
- Taxes on withdrawals and investment gains are not deducted.

Common questions
How is the extra monthly saving worked out?
The analyzer finds the total monthly saving that would reach the required corpus (with the same yearly increase) and subtracts what you save now.
What else closes a gap?
