This calculator provides an estimate based on the information entered. Actual EMI, interest, and repayment schedules may vary based on the lender's calculation method, payment dates, rate changes, and rounding.
An estimate from the assumptions you entered, not a guaranteed outcome.
How this is calculated
n = −ln(1 − Pr/EMI) / ln(1+r)
- P
- Principal (loan amount)
- r
- Monthly interest rate
- EMI
- Your fixed monthly payment
- n
- Number of months to pay off the loan
This is the reverse of the standard EMI calculation: instead of finding your EMI from a fixed tenure, it finds the tenure from your chosen EMI. If your monthly payment is too low to even cover the interest charged each month, the loan balance would grow instead of shrink — this calculator will flag that clearly rather than showing a misleading tenure.
Common questions
What if my EMI barely covers the interest?
The loan will take a very long time to pay off, since almost every payment goes to interest and very little reduces the principal. The calculator shows this honestly rather than hiding it.
