Sizes differ between brands by up to a full size, and some brands use US women = UK + 1.5 or 2.5. Check the brand's own chart and try shoes on when you can.

Shoe sizes are based on the length of the shoe last (the form a shoe is made on), not your foot. In the UK and US each size is a third of an inch (a barleycorn); EU sizes step by two-thirds of a centimetre (a Paris point). India mostly uses UK sizes. Mondopoint, used in Japan and for ski boots, is simply the foot length in millimetres.
