Ideal Weight & Healthy Weight Calculator

Find the healthy weight range for your height from BMI — with the international WHO range or the lower range recommended for Asian Indians — and compare four classic ideal-weight formulas (Robinson, Miller, Devine, Hamwi). Add your current weight to see how far you are from the healthy range.

South Asians have more health risk at the same BMI, so Indian guidelines use lower cut-offs.

A healthy weight is a range, not a single number. Muscle, frame size and age all matter; waist size is a useful extra check (Indian guidance: below 90 cm for men, 80 cm for women).

Population-average estimates for healthy adults, not medical advice. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before major changes to diet or exercise, or if you are pregnant or have a health condition.

How this is calculated

Healthy range = BMI limits × height (m)² · Ideal weight = base + per-inch × (height in inches − 60)

Robinson
Men 52 kg + 1.9 kg/inch; women 49 kg + 1.7 kg/inch
Miller
Men 56.2 + 1.41; women 53.1 + 1.36
Devine
Men 50 + 2.3; women 45.5 + 2.3
Hamwi
Men 48 + 2.7; women 45.5 + 2.2

There's no single ideal weight. The most useful guide is the BMI-based healthy range for your height; for Asian Indians the healthy range ends at 22.9 rather than 24.9 because diabetes and heart risk rise at lower BMIs. The classic ideal-weight formulas, first used for medicine dosing, give a point estimate for comparison.

Common questions

What's the healthy weight for 170 cm?

With the Asian Indian BMI range (18–22.9) it's about 52–66 kg; with the WHO range (18.5–24.9), about 53–72 kg.

Why are Indian BMI cut-offs lower?

At the same BMI, Asian Indians tend to have more body fat and a higher risk of diabetes and heart disease, so Indian guidelines classify overweight from BMI 23 and obesity from 25.
