Hours by day
5 rowsHow this is calculated
Hours = (End − Start, +24 h if the shift crosses midnight) − Break · Overtime = Hours − Daily limit (if positive)
- Decimal hours
- Minutes ÷ 60 — 7:45 is 7.75 hours
- Pay
- Regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × overtime multiplier
Each day's hours are the time between clocking in and out, less breaks. Payroll usually needs decimal hours (7 h 45 min = 7.75 h), so both forms are shown. Overtime here is counted per day beyond your limit; for weekly rules (48 hours in India, 40 in the US) use the Overtime Pay Calculator.

Common questions
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide by 60: 15 min = 0.25 h, 30 min = 0.5 h, 45 min = 0.75 h. So 8 h 45 min is 8.75 hours.
How are night shifts handled?
If the end time is earlier than the start (e.g. 22:00 to 06:00), the shift is taken to end the next morning: 8 hours before breaks.
