Discount Calculator — Sale Price & Percent Off
Find the price after a percentage or flat discount, the discount percentage between an original and a sale price, or the original price from a sale price. Stack a second discount (20 % + 10 % isn't 30 %), buy several, and add GST or sales tax after the discount.

How this is calculated
Sale = Original × (1 − d₁)(1 − d₂) · Discount % = (Original − Sale) ÷ Original · Original = Sale ÷ (1 − d)
- d₁, d₂
- Successive discounts as decimals — they multiply, they don't add
- Tax
- Charged on the discounted price
A percentage discount takes that share off the price. When two discounts are stacked, the second applies to the already-reduced price, so 20 % + 10 % is 28 % off, not 30 %. To find the original price from a sale price, divide by (1 − discount) — adding the percentage back would overstate it.
Assumptions & sources
- Discounts apply to the pre-tax price; tax is charged on the discounted amount.

Common questions
How do I calculate 30 % off?
Multiply the price by 0.70. ₹2,499 with 30 % off is ₹1,749.30.
Is 20 % + 10 % off the same as 30 % off?
No. The 10 % applies to the reduced price: 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72, so the total discount is 28 %.
How do I find the original price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount). ₹1,749 after 30 % off was originally ₹1,749 ÷ 0.7 = ₹2,498.57.
